Foot type biomechanics in diabetic and not diabetic subjects

چکیده
Background The aim of this study was to investigate the role of foot morphology with respect to diabetes and peripheral neuropathy in altering foot kinematics, kinetics and plantar pressure (PP) during gait. Materials and methods Simultaneous 3-dimensional multisegment foot kinematics [1], kinetics and PP [2] of healthy and diabetic subjects with different type of foot were determined. 120 feet were examined (cavus, valgus heel and hallux

American Society of Biomechanics Clinical Biomechanics Award 2012: plantar shear stress distributions in diabetic patients with and without neuropathy.
BACKGROUND The exact pathology of diabetic foot ulcers remains to be resolved. Evidence suggests that plantar shear forces play a major role in diabetic ulceration. Unfortunately, only a few manuscripts exist on the clinical implications of plantar shear. The purpose of this study was to compare global and regional peak plantar stress values in three groups; diabetic patients with neuropathy, d...

Objective Foot ulcer is one of the main challenges of diabetic patients influencing their abilities to stand and walk. Various methods have been suggested to decrease the loads applied to the foot in this group of patients; most methods were not deemed successful and could only be used temporarily. Rocker shoes are recommended for foot ulcer treatment. Based on the available literature, it is s...

متن کاملLaser-induced auto-fluorescence (LIAF) as a method for assessing skin stiffness preceding diabetic ulcer formation.
Recurrent foot ulceration is a major cause of morbidity in diabetic patients. Discrepancy between the stiffness of the plantar skin and underlying soft tissues may influence the likelihood of ulceration. Tissue properties change with diabetes primarily due to high blood glucose which promotes intermolecular cross-linking of structural proteins thus leading to altered structure and function of t...

Background: The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence, severity, and risk factors for diabetic retinopathy in diabetic cases admitted for non-ocular diabetic complications and to investigate the association between retinopathy and these complications. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 84 diabetic patients admitted to our university-affiliated hospital for non-ocular diabetic com...
